The image of the Suburban Train is one of Andrei Surnov’s favorites and is very close to the millions of our fellow citizens. The composition of the picture consists of the rhythms of windows, seats, lamps, going into perspective. A complex system of reflection of light in glass, on a wet floor, on the upholstery of the walls, on the ceiling, on the metal edging of the seats is built with almost photographic accuracy. But, unlike photography, the artist selects individual details. It accurately captures the accents and makes us see the subtle beauty of simple things.
The figure of the girl, blurred to a ghost and not reflected in the glass, gives a mystical content. She is alone in the empty train, like our restless soul, forever wandering and forever full of unfulfilled hopes.
